About Sheila
Sheila Zarfati, MS, RDN, LDN (she/her/hers) is a licensed Registered Dietitian who specializes in working with adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders and disordered eating in New York and New Jersey. Sheila has experience providing compassionate, evidence-based nutrition counseling to individuals with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID), and Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorder (OSFED). She also supports clients navigating orthorexia, body image concerns, compulsive exercise, and those working toward healing their relationship with food, body, and movement.
Sheila graduated from New York University, where she earned her Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics and completed over 1200 hours of supervised practice as a dietetic intern. She gained extensive experience in Clinical Nutrition at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she worked with patients across intensive care units, surgical units, and general medicine, performing nutrition-focused physical exams, diagnosing malnutrition, and collaborating with interdisciplinary care teams.
Sheila went on to complete her community and food service rotations at BALANCE Eating Disorder Treatment Center in New York City, where she deepened her expertise in eating disorder care. At BALANCE, she facilitated meal support, led cooking groups, provided nutrition education, and counseled clients in recovery. She also gained experience in navigating cultural and religious food practices, supporting clients through body image distress, and applying a compassionate, weight-inclusive approach rooted in Health at Every Size®️ and Intuitive Eating.
After experiencing the complexity of eating disorder treatment firsthand, Sheila developed a strong commitment to working with individuals healing their relationship with food, body, and movement. She believes in the power of individualized, compassionate nutrition care and values her role as a Registered Dietitian within the collaborative treatment team.
